The Aftermath
Do you ever take the time
To just stop
And listen?
If you listen closely enough
You can hear your eye lids
Click.
You can hear your ears
Pop
And your brain
Shift.
You can hear the liquids
Sway in your head.
If you listen closely enough.
A sound will create a tidal
Wave of fear.
Sick in the head with
A violent case of nausea.
A snake coils about my abdomen
And eats away at my
Insides.
I'm shivering.
I'm teething without wanting to.
My breath will quicken
If you want it to,
If you listen closely enough.
Ignore the crickets in the keep.
Watch my chest rise with body heat
As you lay on your side in hopes of sleep,
I'll die in another world,
Where the bed bugs wear
Long before midnight.
Where an old bitter cherished
Lies captive in a crease.
Abandoned by a drunken addict.
Abandoned by a simpleton.
Abandoned by a fool.
If you want it to,
Her heart will melt
Through your fingertips
And singe the sheets
Where you can find
A squeamish tear
Posted on a pull.
He withers with each dripping drop
And every snipping drool.
You'd hear it too
And pity true
When pinning comes too soon.
You'd hear it with a backward
Taste
And slowly tune it base to face.
You'd whip your lashes all too kind
And sink in with
A distant vine
About my neck with
Concrete grind.
You'd hear me feel it too.
If you listen closely enough,
You'll know just what to do.
