The Chestnut Tree

Proud stands the solitary chestnut
to embrace each coming year
memories cowed deep in the bark
memories of yesteryear
Few share the old trees secrets
so few can pass that way
but every step that treads her path
leaves dreams of Shropshire days

I also grew up with a huge Chestnut tree in the front yard ( imortalized in poetry), nice one brings back fond memories
