Summer Daisies
SUMMER DAISIES
Endless hot and cloudy sky,
Edge of lawn, the mower silent.
Uncut wet grass, mid-July ---
Stop now tired and watch a moment.
Near the grassy sward new-leveled
Small girl weaves a daisy chain -
White and yellow necklace jeweled
In deeper grass damp with the rain.
Sleeping cat spread sideways there
Among the green and flattened bower,
Mass of smoothly fresh-licked fur
Flicking ears soft touched by flower
