Somewhere Else
Somewhere else
the sun is rising
the day ripens
on a slick branch
continues to grow
its leaves fanning
its scent attracts
swallows and bees
a breeze stirs
the grass below
but not the ants
between the blades
until day falls
the branch bends
beneath its weight
shadows rise and
continue to climb
only then the ants
look up to see
their faces in the sky
