Some Find the Mountain's Silence Melancholy
Some find the mountain’s silence melancholy
imagining the stone yearns
to speak as the valley
through fruit and color
that the streams
which bring its wetness
over rock to soil
leave it barren
but to those who comprehend solitude
it is apparent
it offers the rains
that grace its surface
as a gift
that it may breathe
the odor of the apple blossom in spring
and witness the demise
of summer’s green
through gold and crimson
gaining by quietness
the love that gives form to beauty
the delight that holds
the laughter of the vine and flower
as an echo
and renders it
profound
