'snow, My Beloved'
I walk in the empty park
where winter twilight is dense and full
and the sky falls to a shadow
as trees and ground blend
ebbing into vagueness . . .
The path is wet under my feet
and little frills of ice adorn things
crystalline and frosty and filigree
then suddenly air is full of snowflakes
so enchanting and beautiful
snow has come to be my beloved . . .
I am left breathless
with snow floating among the trees
and I feel snow's sweet touch
on my hair and on my cheek
with no sound except his silent kiss
I stand still in his loving embrace . . .
All my world is quiet and tranquil
Except my beloved whispering snow
Drifting, floating, hovering about me
I whisper, "I love you"
But I know in my heart he will go
And be but a memory lost . . .
