SHUT NOT THOSE EYES Don’t shut those eyes For there in my chortle lies. In them I see a glaring new dawn As your beaming smiles meld with the rising sun To dry up the gore on my psyche left By the gorse that once my heart cleft. All night I yearned for your chirr-up The only hope for my cheer-up Now that you are here I know my tears are gone Never again to be reborned.
