She Sleeps In Silence

The bedroom window is dripping moonlight That is oozing across the carpeted floor. It gives life to the room and diffuses the night Which takes up hiding behind the door. I exercise a paternal rite And check on my child yet once more. Little she knows of the human race And how into hearts evil creeps. Though hate may be raging in some distant place She is safe from the secrets the darkness keeps. As I kiss my daughter’s peaceful face I know tonight, at least, she in silence sleeps.
