Runaway Train

Our love is like a runaway train
Speeding too fast and there's no one to blame
We fell in love without even trying
Every time we laughed, inside we were crying

We wore love out before it ever started
Our hearts ached whenever we were parted
Searching for a way we can start again
Seems like these tracks are coming to an end

I can't believe this has happened to us
Arguments over nothing have taken our trust
Those promises we made each other, kept inside
Becoming lies, no mater how hard we tried

I feel like we had just been got caught speeding
We'll take it slow, find out what we're needing
Just grab the rails tighter to keep us on track
We can make it if we have each others back

Every time I think we are going too fast
I want to slow down, just to make it last
We have both left something so far behind
I want us to go back, to go back in time

I like this one Mitch, in fact I was going there too but for some reason I went on the dark side with my entry. I just read your last five works and I enjoyed them all. I have a Grand Caravan myself. Thanks for your kind words. All the best. JT

The flow of this poem rattled along like the train itself. The comparison to a volatile love is a good one. much enjoyed reading Mitch. well done...Margaret

Love perseveres is so profoundly seen in this poem. Let us not look out the rearview mirror when it comes to love but out the front winshield and do what we need to do for today to let the love survive. Thanks! Susan

I love where you went with this runaway train-- an all too familiar train. Lovely write, you've penned it perfectly. Best of luck.

Too bad you can't put that train in reverse, Mitch, but that's how love is. If you do take it slower, I think there's more chance for success. Great interpretation of the theme and best wishes for the contest. Love, Carolyn
