Remembering When
The Old Tree Fort
I remember when....
We looked upon a sea of brown-
roofed housetops where we knew the names
of families up the street and down...
We'd spy and laugh, with reckless shame
I remember when...
That sagging door in our wood box
was much too squat for Mary Sue
To squeeze her bouncy redhead locks
She had to bend her frame in two
I remember when...
The summer afternoons were meant
for kids like me, who came and went
That tree house box, where hours spent
was our hide out, from heaven sent
