Remembering

REMEMBERING

Age sedates the imperfections of youth
excuses passions and
accommodates inexperience
Yet we heap glory on the culture
of their newly discovered experiments.
Often we tremble to see them go astray
biting away at civilized norms.
But when they reflect our dreams
of hedonistic excesses we smile
and wonder how to recapture the fire
that now simmers; a burnt out ember
of a flaming heart.

Andrea, some might say I'm a bit peculiar with spacey thinking, so I thank you for your pleasant comment. Allan

I can relate so much to your words..When i see young teenagers full of life..I smile for them ..Remembering how not long ago I was one of them..yet now having a child of my own..my mind is full of caution and at times fear of what is ready for her in the huge orbit. She s stiill one yr old yet my heart knows she ll grow so fast ..and I wonder where passion would lead her tiill embers fade to live in dreams as her mum's do.Excellent post!

Sometimes the flame flairs up but then quickly dies. Thanks for reading this. Allan

Sorry Anne, comment below was for Richard. As we age, sometimes we feel diminished. What passion remains is metered out and we react with caution. Except in my case, where obtuse ideas still get expressed in poetry.

Richard, youth has great passion and often uses it to excess but we as adults with narrower vision see chaos. Nevertheless, it often excites us and causes our minds to shift back to earlier days. Don't think we were any happier but the blood ran quicker and voices were louder. Thank you for your comment. Allan

This is a good explanation as to why we are a youth worshipping culture. So many of us fail to embrace the wonders and magnificence that comes with age.

hi Allah, A great poem, very impactful. I can readily understand and gain insight into some of the various perspectives and sentiments contained in this wonderful poem, particularly when I talk to my two adolescent children. Very memorable. Looking forward to your next poem. Best wishes, Merton

Hello Allen, one can always rekindle a heart, ... I believe aging hearts come with little sparks... but, then again I believe an aging heart can burn with passion like never before... enjoyed...Linda

Oh Linda, you are always on top of things. And as usual, I love hearing from you. I think the the key part of the poem was the hedonistic experiences; something we more mature adults look back with aghast and envy. You are the heart of Poetry Soup. Thank youl Allan
