Recovery
Relief will come
in little steps
each passing day
a small step
closer
to the edge
of life again...
a little piece
a little glimpse
of who we used to be
a holiday
has come and gone
and every song
is new again
without
that part
of "us"
that used to be
our normalcy
Oh, grief!
you are a thief
you are a road
that cuts right through the human heart
and up and down,
it takes us
around sharp curves
to some new place
that we don't know,
and have no wish
to go...
We try to pass the days
so fast,
without a backwards glance
and hope we can ignore
familiar things
and some so new,
and we can't change the
road we take so strange in hue
yet, once in awhile
a stumbled fall
a pause, a chance
to turn around
to turn a head
one little glance
and there you are
you stop us dead, right in our tracks
we cannot run, we cannot hide
until we're done
relief I feel, ...one little ounce
just to know
we made it through
and even though
we cannot choose
until these moments pass
