Recipe For Love

It’s dark up top
The machines rule
I live in the basement
In the darkness
No light just my computer
It gives me what I need
If it could feed me
I would never leave this place
I dread going up top
There are people there
And they are wicked
Rude and needy
I need neither
I can love in the dark
I can hate in the dark
I can stream reality in the dark
I can wear my PJ’s in the dark
Sometimes I light a candle
And I paint the walls and floor
It’s chaotic but it makes sense to me
I left my ear by the door
And a leg on the stoop
They deliver wine on Wednesday
I have them leave it by the door
I am baking a recipe
For love
I just need more time

Dear Kilmer - You grab my heart with every poem. It's tough to feel so insulated if only in the mind - as I hope. I love the images as you write "ear by the door" "leg on the stoop". I've sometimes felt the need to stay here and read reality with a cheap bottle of wine. Did you ever look up Alan Seeger's "I have a rendezvous with Death"? Actually he's related to Pete Seeger not that that means anything. Kathy

Kathy I did look up Alan Seeger and I was in awe that you would compare my work to his. I was aware that he is relate to Pete Seeger who is of course and American Icon. I am so happy you enjoy my work. I don't try and emulate anyone. It just comes from the soul. Thank you for all your kind words. ~Kilmer
