Pure Gold
I came seeking gems
not the worldly kind
for they are not rare
not in my book anyway
No the treasure I sought
was not the normal type
that mortals greedily grasp
these are gone at end of day
What I seek is the written word
these are the true gems that fall
sparkling casting magical spells
inspiring letters forming verse
Although on their own
each word still has magic
conjures up a picture
day we think bright and sun
food and pictures flood in
bacon sarnies or roast beef
yes our words paint many pictures
as our poems weave their spell
For me they are pure magic
as I am caught up in their spell
long after we are dead and gone
minds of many still caught in awe
You poets get the message
understand beauty
and touch people's souls
with words dripped from pens
I wrote this as a thank you to Soup for giving us a place to write and share our work and to my fellow poets who inspire me daily
