Our Stars and Stripes

Behold our waving flag and what it means.
Our young soldiers have fought and died for liberty.
When their remains are carried home across the seas
As loved ones mourn their loss it’s plain to see

The pride for these brave souls behind the tears.
Their flag covered coffin pays homage and respect
As a twenty one gun salute rings in our ears,
We know they fought and died for us, to protect

Our freedom with their great love for the U.S.A.
Too soon they are laid to rest within the ground.
With honor, the flag is folded and we say goodbye.
We bless their souls as they are heaven bound.

We’ll never forget the sacrifice they made.
The last image of the flag burned in our eyes,
With grateful hearts we pray they rest in peace
As our flag represents their glory in our skies.

I thought I would post this poem in honor of Patriot Day.

I think it is good to be grateful for sacrifices given but there have been far too many wars and the same with lives lost. We humans seem to have a propensity for war. BtW Connie, could you resend the link for PFT; it got deleted when my hard drive went. thanks luv, Lizzie

connie, it's 1 a.m and finally I'm getting off from trying to catch up after being with Joel all day. I just know I won't have time to be here tomorrow. How are you? Hope to see you post a bit more here, and I need to put stuff more at PFT. Luv, Andrea

Excellent Connie and that's the only way the image of our flag should be burned ...in our eyes and hearts.

It's so sad that many young lives are sacrificed for our freedom, Connie. Watching the flag covering the coffin as we hear the guns saluting is such an emotional moment. It's really nice to see you posting again, dear. This is beautifully composed. Love, Carolyn
