No Arrival

I charted once a course to gold A place wherein I might take hold Of everything I ever wished Retire there; enjoy the bliss But every time I thought that I Was finally there, I’d stop and try To take my rest and grab the things That I expected such to bring But each time I found to my dread The land of gold lay still ahead And on and on this cycle went Until at last my strength was spent Which left me standing in despair Afraid I’d never make it there Frustrated to the very core And wondering just what life is for “Does not this journey have an end? Perhaps the gold is just pretend” But then so soft inside my head The voice of reason spoke and said “The reason why you can’t arrive: You want what’s on the other side”

I have been reading several of your poems today, and though many of them seem to be in the "sad" category, I have enjoyed reading 'good poetry', and verses which are a credit to the title 'poet'.
