My Yuletide Routine
My Yuletide routine ain't changed a great deal over the years.
I enjoy sittin' by the fire with a little somethin' to sip that cheers!
I take my annual stroll through the malls enjoyin' the lights and such,
But accordin' to my wife, I'm an old Scrooge and don't spend very much!
I like to watch kids squirm and stutter as they sit on Santa's knee,
Recallin' the past when I sat on his knee downtown at J. C. Penney!
We spend an evenin' drivin' about town gawkin' at the lights on display.
Christmas Eve we go to church to enjoy the Sunday School Nativity Play.
A must see is "A Christmas Carol" with George C. Scott on TV,
As well as "A Christmas Story" with Ralphie and his dotty family!
I enjoy sendin' and receivin' Christmas cards from kin and kith,
But a crowin' Yule letter is destined for my garbage can forthwith!
I spend hours gazin' at the tree and musin' about Christmases past,
And wishin' that the Spirit of Christmas the entire year would last!
Most of all I cherish time with family as we gather about the hearth,
To reminisce, exchange love and celebrate our dear Savior's birth!
