My Happiest Day
The best day of my life was the day I was born,
I could have been just another sloughed egg.
But I had four brothers born before,
Who often for a sister would beg.
My parents obliged and I came into life.
I’ve been told it was their happiest day,
The day I was born on the 7th of July.
No one wanted to send me away.
A happy childhood until I was wed
To a man who would love me for life.
The children I bore, made me happier still,
As a most loving mother and wife.
The happy days I’ve had since my first one
Outnumber the sad quite a bit.
But I must still claim the first day as my best.
I’d have none of the rest without it.
