Like a Small Boat
Like a small boat
In the vast sea
Bow and aft
Sits you and me
Conquering storms
Breaching waves
Riding whirlpools
Together we stayed
Until one day
A crack begins
The side of our boat
An unforgiving sin
Silently growing
Day and night
But we cannot fix
This scary sight
Larger and longer
A poisonous snake
Becoming too much
For our boat to take
Splitting apart
You in bow, me in aft
The current carries us
In it's endless laugh
Apart, apart
In the waves
Our halves of the boat
Riding farther away
You from me
And me from you
I look out
And reach for you
But we're too far
Winds too strong
Sea too vast
An endless song
To this day
I keep trying to find
You and your half
Our boat still whines
For it's bow is missing
Torn from it's aft
Will not be whole
Until finding your half
But all your footprints
Leads away
And I know that you
Plan to stay that way
Like water and oil
You keep us apart
While I keep trying to fix it
You keep breaking my heart.
