Life of a Has Been

I often think and wonder about a has been, of what they have been through. When a person has been this and has been that and has been almost everything - what do they have left? You used to do the night scene. You used to drive fast cars and go out with fast women. You even had luxuries for a while. You were even married at one time, but you lost all that in the course of your life. A woman I once saw, was already old. She told me, one day what a great life at one time she had. I used to be beautiful when I was young. I used to go out to beautiful places. Men would buy me cars, jewels and a lot of nice things. I never got married - that wasn't for me. To be bothered with kids, I didn't want to be. Soon one day the beauty faded and no one cared to look at me. Now I sit here alone and with no family. The life of a has been is pretty sad - when only memories are all that's left. They think and they wonder of what went worng, but deep in their heart I think they know, that it wasn't anybody's fault, but their own...

Thoughtful verse...the has been still has much to give to others and not just sit alone having a pity party...she could become a volunteer somewhere and become the gift instead of an empty package. Enjoyed the read! Cynthia

This is really excellent a lot to think about. I guess better to be a has been than to have been to afraid to have lived, I guess that could be worse. I like your poem.

Did you ever hear of a movie called "The Champ" - it is about a has - been boxer. Your words reminded me of it. The storm was bad but New Yorkers have overcome here. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Great truth that you have spoken..When a person no longer has dreams or desires to do anything, all they have are memories..Captivating work that drew me in and held my attention..Sara

We will not be "rich" of money and luxus - we will not happy without true love - we born in joy - and die alone - the poor and the "rich" - Very well written Lucilla! - Have a nice day. - oxox / / Anne-Lise :)
