I Opened My Bible Today

I opened my Bible today. The first thing I noticed was how yellow the pages seemed - then the odor of it rose to my nostrils, my head filled with images. At first I thought how sad - I should be ashamed of myself. Has it been so long since I opened my Bible that it smells of a book lost in the dark recesses of a library? One pushed, little by little, to the back, as if it was set aside for newer and more exciting volumes - possibly soon for the discard pile? Gradually my perception evolved, realizing the book had taken on the life of the ancients. Now it not only was the words of men explaining the word of God, but it had the atmosphere of the ages. Speaking in sync with its historical time the words made a greater sense. They weren't at all the same words that I had to memorize in Sunday school - But the hearts of men singing.

Thank you for your comment daver. Sad that so much time goes by. However, I believe I have evolved to the spirit of the words in the bible. Loving and honoring nature. This amazing earth and all its beauty. ~j~

Like you, I haven't opened a bible in many years. The ageless story and wisdom would no doubt have great meaning in my old age. I think I shall follow your lead and have a look. Love, daver

When a suckling in the spirit reads the Bible it becomes just a mere story but those whose mental faculties have been trained and have walked its pages..it becomes the oxygen without which no man can survive.. Thanks Judy. :) beautiful

It is said that we all have on our shelves a Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare. I have read my Bible more than once but William never got a 2nd reading. Thank you for the reminder!! God Bless. D.

Seems to me, the Bible hadn't changed, just the "voice of the reader" older, wiser, Love the poem! 1-4-3 ~Tru~
