I Didn'T Want To Write This Poem

I didn’t want to write this poem Of twenty children dead. I’d much prefer composing words Of pleasant things instead. I didn’t want to think up rhymes For evil, horror, shock; I’d like to hide those images Behind a mental block. I didn’t want to conjure up A classroom filled with death, Or parents of those kindergartners Struggling for breath. I didn’t want to write of those Who heard each awful shot. I didn’t want to write this poem But then, how could I not?

Oh Ilene. You've gotten to the heart of it - we all feel like it shouldn't have to be written. lovely tribute. Kathy

Oh Ilene....your words must be penned down...this is one more voice to commemorate the loss of innocent life. It is also a cry against evil that was never intended to be part of our lives. I'm touched by your poem. God weeps with those who weep...we should as well.

I wrote something about the tragedy too. What a terrible thing. Sometimes I wonder what kind of world we are living in. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

A rhyme has never seemed so trite. For an evil like this, there is no right. But I'm amazed how we carry on. When 28 souls won't see another dawn. Our hearts are so heavy beyond our belief. I just pray Jesus soon comes to end all our grief. Peace be in your soul.

I'm right with you on this. So much of our history can be gleaned from it's poets. Good job. Great write! I just wrote a related poem but much more general in nature. Haven't posted it yet. It's titled "Misanthropes" Hope you get a chance to read it. I always enjoy your visits. Best wishes during Hanukkah.

Yes, my dear Ilene. Glad you did. I feel terrible for those loved ones who had to go through it. Just awful. A senseless crime!
