I Am Bored With Poetrysoup

I am bored with Poetrysoup Premier Poetry website rekindled my poetic talent Veterans loved my work and inspired to showcase talent But soon got entangled in Members Contest Contests more of mutual admiration club than talent hunt One Premium Member placing other high on winners list Ordinary Members often accomodated below Glory list Poetrysoup Members Contest rules needs revision Premium Membership based on fees not on merits and contribution Novice at times get chance to judge veteran And post three poems in Poetrysoup Contest tilting fair play condition Rules need revision, Premium Membership should be criteria driven Either based on 25 Top Ten wins or upon posting of 150 poems Top 50 of Poetrysoup Contest should conduct contests and groom Though bored yet good platform of poetic expression is Poetrysoup ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By Hitendra Mehta April 2011 Placed 7th in Members Contest - I am bored with______ by Linda Marie ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ P.S - Its not intended to offend the Premium Members. Few of them have really supported me and loved my visuals and flow. The idea is to make this platform more stronger and meritorious to groom real talent. Winning Top Ten and accumulating marks is okay but ultimate gratification lies in showcasing the visuals with seamless flow of theme and packaging same in adorable poetic forms. Ventured this caustic one hoping that it will bring about positive changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Congratulations on your win! Some of it's a catch 22. How can you get to have 25 wins to become a premium member if only premium members are getting the wins? I have just learned to accept that every member is subjective and my idea of what's good and their ideas of what's good aren't always going to match. Unfortunately, it may take us dying for them to appreciate our work!

congratulations on your win, Hitendra.I see you inspired a lot of comments with this one. And I am sure you saw the big blog controversey! I think it is a thing that will never be resolved as long as we do not have blind judging.

Very good, clever stuff. Impressed at how you conveyed an honest message in an inoffensive way. Shouldn't poets be commentators, too?

Congratulations, Hitendra. I guess the sponsor took no offense and I no none was intended. Still, Diane Locksley's "I am bored with egos" is apparently the only poem that didn't place in this contest. You know how much I enjoyed the message in your great poem. Congratulations on your win, Love, Carolyn

Oh, Hitendra! You're hurt.being new here, don't know the rest.but what i realized after motherhood and all,one feels so good having girl friends here.to love them and receive their affection..and girls will always remain girls at heart, even when they're women.instant connect, thoughts tastes also match and the rest follows. Nonetheless yours is a wonderful, creative write. many Congrats on your win.if i sound motherly ,think of this as professional hazard :) cheers and regards, gautami

Hurrah! You describe the contest problems perfectly Hitendra. Carolyn had suggested I read this poem after she read mine on being bored with egos. You and I are thinking alike. The jig is up PMs. We know a few of you only pick your friends as winners. Hope you'll check out my poem on this subject Hitendra. Together we are making a statement. I'm so glad I read this. You made my day! Best to you, Diane (a fave for me also)

Hitendra, just want you to know I've been asking folks to take a look at this and they all seem to agree with what you said. We are missing the intent of writing better poetry when we become so absorbed in contests. Blessings to you for having the courage to speak out. Love, Carolyn

I believe you have a valid point in this write and hopefully will receive strong attention by those who can make change. As with any art, the beauty and merit is in the eyes of the beholder and therefore I believe that is why on Poetry Soup a novice can judge what is beauty in his/his own eyes. Thankfully, there is a PS competition where the best of the best is judged by experienced poets.

Carrie has hit the nail on the head, all judging should be blind. I would welcome an explanation as to why the poets names should be on the entries? I can't get my head around this scenario?????????

Well everyone knows my views already Hitendra and I think I've offended some of the Premium Members because they have blocked me from commenting on their works...This poem is very enlightening!! Bravo!!! Jimmy

Hitendra...I applaud you for airing what so many are feeling. I have been fortunate to place high in some of the contests....and although writing is often inspired for me, by the contests....I DO see the how far the scales are so unbalanced in favor of premium members...I like your suggestion..setting limits would be a good idea. There is very obvious favoritism also...not all...but some judge favorites over and over.I am a firm believer in blind judging...no names! Kuddos to you for this poem

YOU SAID A MOUTHFUL, Hitendra. Some people DO use contests to reward friends. One member even told me she's only friends with another because she places high in her contests. It's gotten out of hand and I'd like to see panels judging, not just ONE member. Your poem is ACES in my book! Goes to my faves and I hope others see what you are describing is really happening here. BRAVO!!! Love, Carolyn
