His Eyes

His eyes, oh his eyes Consume the fabric of my life; I try to swim But he reels me in And I drown in those deep dark pools. I fall willingly Into the terrifying tenderness of love. I am lost - How could I have known I would fall so deep? First attempt doing free verse.

you wrote this while i was away, glad i've read this, i can understand this, i've found in life to give any aspect 100% effort, if one gets it right Bliss, if wrong devastation, but that's me.. thanks for the comment on 'The Leaving' i'm actually living back in the uk now, after a total of 45 years 36 of those in New Zealand and 9 in Australia...

Have you ever read Tanneheuser by Heinrich Heine - the German poet? The theme is similar to what this poem is about. Very nice, romantic work! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Did you ever hear of the poem by W.H. Auden entitled "What is this thing called Love?" This reminds me of it. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Very nice...'Eyes' are always a good theme (for me anyway... apparently also for you)... I've not tried 'free verse', but maybe (with this inspiring poem in mind), I may one day try... Terry

it is a beautiful first attempt at free verse Elizabeth, reading your book at work today was my inspiration for my sonnet, and that in turn was the inspiration for my current contest, see, you inspire me in many ways.
