His Eyes

His eyes, oh his eyes
Consume the fabric of my life;
I try to swim
But he reels me in
And I drown in those deep dark pools.
I fall willingly
Into the terrifying tenderness of love.
I am lost -
How could I have known
I would fall so deep?

First attempt doing free verse.

    Have you ever read Tanneheuser by Heinrich Heine - the German poet? The theme is similar to what this poem is about. Very nice, romantic work! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

    Did you ever hear of the poem by W.H. Auden entitled "What is this thing called Love?" This reminds me of it. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

    Looks like you've mastered 'free verse' , Elizabeth! "the terrifying tenderness of love"...somewhat of a paradox, but so very true! Oopsie, I commented on this one before!...I enjoyed it as much this time 'round! Keep, Mikki
