Heartbeats

An explosion out of nowhere, made the world halt its spin, the ocean breeze stopped blowing, my innocence gripped in fear. Our heartbeats in rhythm, the only sound I hear, darkness in your eyes, in mine a single tear. I’ve never in my life, ever felt this way, thinking and believing, this our final day. Split seconds turned to minutes, as I look for words to say, screaming on the inside, on my knees I begin to pray. Slow motion movies play on, forever in my mind, all of our time together, replays on constant rewind. Could this be the end, before the beginning ever starts? The world still not moving, as I hold you in my arms. So I look up to the heavens, for answers to my prayers, for you to come back to me, as my hands brush back your hair. But somehow in the distance, I see a sparkle in your eyes, and somehow feel your soul, gently whispering to mine. Our lives together not finished, eternally entwined, sweet music still to play on, so perfectly timed. Looking to the sky now, and smiling deep within, in a flash, my life has changed, forever and ever til the end.
