Hawaiian Eye

Mountain doves coo as Apollo wakes peering
Over the Koolau ridge still dark with sultry shadows.
Sunbeams glisten on soft grey and white feathers
As the happy pair take flight in unison to tree tops.

Garden snails creep to hide under verdant foliage
As geckos delight in the warmth of the rising sun.
Magenta blooms convey love's kiss on cool trades
Bursting forth with unpredictable iconoclastic pride.

Islands in a chain still growing with lava ever flowing
While Goddess Pele steams her way into the sea,
Honu graze on pastures of limu beneath shore waters
As they have since ancient times, near coral reefs.

How can one despair with the scent of mangos in the air,
Nor stifle spirit's flight o'er the rolling ocean waves
As they caress the sandy shores beneath the palms?
The islands sing in praise with upheld open arms.

(My island as seen through my eyes.)

Geckos are a type of lizard
Pele is the volcano Fire Goddess
Honu is the most common Hawaiian Green Turtle
(They can weigh up to 400 lbs.)
Limu is Hawaiian seaweed

Hello Connie, this is such a wonderful and breath-taking piece. The imagery is just awesome. I love it! I can taste the mangoes as the juice just run down my elbow chin and shirt. Right now, I should be sitting under a palm tree, playing with a turtle, and eating a nice juicy mango. This is so relaxing. Great job! Joseph

Nice capture- takes me back- I hated to leave- I didn't know you had Geckos there haha- I snorkeled for 30 hours and (unfortunately) never saw a turtle- I even went a half mile out (passed an Moray Eel with a head almost a big as mine- he showed me his teeth and retreated back in the hole to let me pass) to where the reef dropped hundreds of feet and the water was much colder as the fish were much larger out there- till a rescue boat came and reminded me of the large sharks out there lol

Wow!...How I envy you living in Hawaii, Connie!...beautiful description. I would be interested to know which island you live on? (And I believe my car is insured by one of those Gecko fellas?) - Tim
