Good Hearts
Honey, you're beautiful.
More beautiful than you know.
Good hearts
really take a beating,
because some of the tallest people can stoop so low.
It's almost a game out there:
how much can I get hurt without showing it?
Ain't a single scar that ain't worth hiding.
Even good hearts have a few bad scars.
Someday
you'll stand and say
to the black heart that stood in your way:
I never once hurt you,
I took your slaps in stride.
I never once reciprocated,
handled it and solved it inside.
I never once hurt you when you hurt me deep tonight.
But for tonight,
I'll just cry
because that's what good hearts do.
Yes tonight
you'll say I'm
not beautiful and I'll believe you.
But only for tonight.
Later on I'll once again realize:
I'm a good heart.
You don't even know one
when you see one
but I know I'm a good heart.
