Get Back Chicken

Chicken, get back; don’t peck me For the cleaver in my hand Just think, could be, soon chopping thee. Dinner captured, cleaned and panned. © February 16, 2012 Dane Ann Smith-Johnsen Written for Poetry Soup Member Contest: Chastushka Form-Russian Poetry Sponsored by: Gwendolen Rix

LOL, just had to read this one! Had a chuckle. Our neighbour has 3 pet hens. Thanks very much - loved your contest : )

This poem makes you sound sadistic. Nobody had better approach you when you have a cleaver in your hand.

I just have to add one more note on this comment, Robert. It was inspired by a rooster who gave me the evil eye one day a couple of years ago when I was walking over the the egg box to collect eggs. He had never look that way...the stay away from our eggs look. Since he had always been a friendly rooster prior to that day, I ignored the evil eye. Well, I collected the eggs and he proceeded to walk over to me and give me one peck on the top of my foot! I didn't really even hurt. But I had to go to the hospital because he hit an artery! LOL That was the one and only time he ever pecked anyone. He is still our best white Plymouth rock roo. No, I didn't get out the cleaver! LOL I just laughed because it was so ironic and unusual and a good egg protector daddy! The of his hens are sitting on eggs now. So, we'll have a few spring chicks I suppose.

LOL I know it does! LOL Truth be know, though, we raise chickens but can't kill them. We do eat the eggs, though! Not veterinarian, yet!
