Finding Peace
In the time of flower power,
maryjane’s smoky eyes led me in a trance,
to an acid world,
colored in a purple haze,
and so psychedelic feet
danced across my mind’s floor.
Lost and confused about it all
when a call to arms held me captive
in the war that wasn’t
and a cause now forgotten.
Shelled into fright
and not sure of a one God,
on two I did lean.
When a government issue no more,
all was safe and sound
I thought, which god did hear?
One fought to keep me in the dark
of a black heart
with questions
and twisted answers
about the whys and whats of life.
So I struggled to see the light
and make sense of it all
through bloodshot eyes
of a messed up life.
But the true One heard my plea
and mercifully drew near
when a face glowing with peace
opened my heart to truth's
bright light
to rescue me from dark despair.
