Fatal Attraction

Again! I come to you,
thou, I said I never would;
but! Here I am again,
in the middle of the night,
your slave.

How many times,
have I walked away;
turned my back on you,
then found I couldn’t
sleep a wink, for all I did
was lie-awake, and think of you?

And even when I could sleep,
every dream, - I dreamed, was you.
It would appear,
I am addicted to you.

What is this hold you have on me,
that will not set me free;
that claims my every waking,
and sleeping thought, and dream?

There are times I love you more
than life itself, when you carry me away
from the downside of reality;
and I become the real me.

But, there are times, when I hate you;
like now, when I need to sleep,
but you keep calling me, knowing
I can’t resist.

So, here I am again,
in the middle of the night,
in the kitchen - with you - my destiny
as once again, I write.

This is really great. Bound to a muse and needing to be able to write. That's the poet in us all. Great stuff my friend. God Bless, JB

Lainie I have way too many sleepless nights to count too ..that is when the creative spirit rises up for most of us poet addicts..haha.. as u phrased it so well and the most beautiful pieces emerge from our pens when we should be sleeping.. our gift won't let us sleep if it wants us to create that moment.. a lovely insight into the writer and experience or as u titled Fatal Attraction..luv..

Lainie, you were meant to be a writer. You can put up all the fuss you want, try to walk away, but that pen is magnetized and you will have to keep writing. If this is for John Heck's contest, I wish you success! Love, Carolyn

Good poem, with a clever ending. I try to accommodate my muse by keeping paper and pencil by my bedside.
