Farmer's Rose
I walked ten thousand feet
Through high stocks of wheat
You holding onto my arm
The wind blew through your hair
I was glad to be there
This our new home on the farm
It seems like yesterday
As together we play
We lived a life filled with charm
You turned and walked away
Not enamored with clay
You wanted more that is true
The earth was my solace
I watched the seasons pass
What else could I really do
The ground my mistress
Still I wanted your kiss
Yet there was no sign of you
As all the years went by
I couldn't help but cry
Yet this was the life I chose
From tears a green shoot grew
A thing of beauty new
I watched as the flower rose
A woman oh so fair
Standing before me there
From my garden her I chose
A new form for Dr. Ram
The Balassi Stanza Contest
I combined three seperate Balassi poems
forming nine stanzas. My first attempt
at this form. I hope I got it right.
