Falsely Imprisoned

James Bain imprisoned in jail for a crime he did not commit Proclaiming his innocence that took a long 35 years to acquit Accused of raping a nine year old boy, when he was just nineteen That his young life would be stolen from him was devastatingly unforeseen All because he fit the description, a case of mistaken identity Now facing years of hardships, gone the days of relaxed serenity The mental anguish he must have endured, one can not conceive Yet, he's not angry or bitter, angst most of us could not perceive Four motions were denied for DNA testing on his case The fifth proved his innocence and became his saving grace Released when he was 54, with a smile that doesn't leave his face He says: "it's because I got God", his devout faith he does embrace Now positive and happy, he is an inspiration to all mankind To fight and not to give up hope when dealt cards justly unkind. so many awkward emotions accompany these tricky situations. I can only question the judicial system. Good for this gentleman to have such a good perspective on things. I did a ghostwriting for a guy in California who was wrongly imprisoned for murder. It was a heart wrenching experience for me. ANd I did ZERO TIME. I can't imagine what these souls go through. SOOO MUCH is loaded into these scenarios. ThNX FOR THE ENLIGHTENMENT! ~ jsl

This is a sad tale indeed. Definately speaks to his character that he can be so positive under these awful circumstances. I don't know much about this case, at least not until reading your poem.

Great poem - heartbreaking story. Unfortanutely, not the only one that can fit the theme of this contest. Good rhyme and flow through and through without losing focus of the story.

I think I read about this case, Cecilia. I too wondered how he could be so not bitter at the injustice of it all. Thirty five years is a big chunk out of his life. You presented his case very well and good luck in the contest. Thank you for your kind comments. Love, Joyce

Aligning perhaps it was a karma sign, where once before a different life time, sow to reap begins to chime, we suffer here, it aint divine? possible payback for the crime, what would i know, it's the hurting mime, ironic patterns divining, your planet is aligning , with mine? re:"Falsely Imprisoned" Cecilia Macfarlane Don Johnson
