Faces of Loneliness
Loneliness makes his usual rounds
As he listens to lonely hearts pound
He visits the woman who's up in years
And helps her dry her lonely tears
Her children don't come around anymore
It is always loneliness who knocks on her door
He goes to the house of the little boy and knocks on the door
The boy's mother is hardly ever home
The scared child hides when he hears thunder roar
And his tears fall on the dusty floor
His heart races as the storm roams
Loneliness moves on to the dwelling of an old war veteran
Who lost both legs in Vietnam
He has no dreams, just lonely plans
Flashbacks wake him from his sleep
And it makes him weep
Then loneliness visits those who have no home
They are the ones who are truly alone
They have such a meager existence
They've lost their souls, their very essence
It seems they've cried out all their tears
All they've left is a vacant stare
And when all those lonely tears have accrued
Loneliness transforms them into the river of solitude
