Devil's Lies

The Devil whispered in my ear
" You are unlovable
Settle for less
No one has ever cared
Sex will satisfy
Have a few more drinks
Money is the answer that you seek
You don't need a God
Here and now is all that counts
Sink into your sadness
It's not so bad to be alone
Settle into the land of regrets
This is as good as it gets
Do what you have to
Take care of number one
Dress the part
Be one of the beautiful people
Fill your heart with lust
Do not deprive yourself
Gorge on the banquet
Speak your mind
Tell it like it is
No need to keep anything from yourself
Lie cheat
You will not be caught"
Then I looked to the Heavens
How can this be?
God smiled and said
"You are lovable beyond your imagination
Do not settle for less
I care
I will bless you with who and what you need
I will never leave you alone
Feel my presence
Sex is one of many gifts you will receive
Honor the body I have given you
It connects you to the world
Guard your tongue
It can Poisen your soul
Honor your spirit it comment you to me
Use money as a tool it is a poor substitute for love
Live like there is no tommorow
Still know that I give you eternity
Your world is no longer one of regrets
Feel my warm hand on your shoulder
Put others before yourself
As I put you before myself
I am watching
Not as your judge but as one who loves you
Ready to lift you when you fall
I will carry you when you are weak
Yes you are Loveable
Do not believe the Devils lies."

Excellent advice and values with answers to the dark with light. One of my favorites in this contest Richard. Congratulations on your win. I am so happy I didn't miss reading this one. I just can't keep up with all the contests and poems posted. It is hit and miss, but I feel fortunate when I have some spare moments to catch a poem like this! Bravo!

YES, this is great! I think there is something in the water here at the soup - We all seem to be writing about some pretty depressing stuff (myself included). But you turned yours around and ended on such a positive note. Love it! This is the kind of optimistic faith we all need! :)

You have been his mouthpiece through this write, Richard! Isn't that amazing! There is a verse I love in 1 Peter 4:11- I often think of it when I am asked to speak in church: "If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God." This applies to the writing of this poem...the voice of God! Thanks for sharing!
