Daniel A Man of Purpose

A young man went many years ago,
To a place where freedom he would not know.
This land was void of liberty he had known,
The reality of captivity he was quickly shown.

A decree went out one somber day,
That to his God, he could not pray.
This practice that he was accustomed to,
He now was told he could not do.

Of this command he could not conceive,
For he must practice what he believed.
To willfully abandon the dictates of his heart,
Was something he simply would not start.

Day after day he continued to do
What he, as a youngster, had been taught to do.
To revert to paganism he would not now start,
For Daniel had earlier purposed in his heart.

His devotion was tested, time and again,
But his resolve was strong till the end.
In the lion’s den or furnace’s fire,
He was ready to do what faith did require.

The blessings he knew as time went on,
Many have questioned why to him they were shown.
Reasons have resulted after much speculation,
There is really only one answer to the question.

To trust his God and His commands obey,
Brought Daniel protection day after day.
The answer to the “Why?” question in the verse above,
Daniel was the recipient of God’s great love.

Daniel was different than the average man,
He dared to trust a Wiser One’s plan.
The blessings did early in his life start,
He was a man with purpose of heart.
