Changing Sky
My big birthday is coming and I need a sailor’s eye,
With one eye on the calendar, the other on the sky.
Reserving the park early to hold the celebration
Invitations went to everyone I knew across the nation.
But rain clouds have kept coming and I have begun to fret.
We haven’t had two days of sun in a succession yet.
I thought that it was safe to plan for a birthday in July,
But rain clouds have chased summer in the ever changing sky.
One day of sun, six days of rain have been a normal week.
Clouds are forming up again, this moment as I speak.
I am surprised that I have made it to the age of ninety-five.
July 7th bring the sunshine please, to cheer that I’m alive.
