By Calm
Citizens of the world 'tis good to be calm,
Children of God need not the haste
That often stumbles toes to harm,
And makes destinies just a waste.
Step by step, just bit by bit,
Brick by brick is the way to go;
To build a wall the sky to hit,
Walking the steps by care and lore.
Though times be hard and duty broad,
Just by calm you plot the way;
To know the steps to be taken and the bus to board,
The ride that's right for a better day.
When storms scare and and tides are high,
By calm study and weigh your chance;
Underneath you hide or above you fly?
Just by calm you win at once!
The sea's turbulent at the middle of sail?
Don't row with fret or dive headlong.
Take time to think how not to fail,
by taking right and leaving wrong.
That way you may escape much harm,
And though maybe hit you still race to shore;
Just because you chose by calm
You at the end overcame the woe.
