BREAK-UP
It wasn’t the usual sort of break-up
They’d both been there before,
An exit through a cold, familiar door –
Cold, because, after all, sex had weathered, worn
And when that was become old, ideal love shorn,
It was come – clime for renewed summertime
Ideal love, for them, had become youthful folly
Because as their lives had progressed,
Unable to find one who passed perfection’s test,
They both, horny, lonely, settled for second best –
The bed of passion, the soul unfulfilled,
The heart of heats dampened, still.
Hopefully, one day they’ll have a revelation
That life’s resolve be not self-glorification,
That life, for all manner creatures is spiritual,
Not limited to the bed chamber, but universal,
Not of mind, but of immortal soul
Life’s actions imbued with purpose, God as goal,
