Blind

In a calm black
Darker than darkness
I'm perfectly blind
With ignorance to confess

All there is that I can sense
Is the movement of my chest
I can hear and imagine
Nothing besides my breath

This place is unfamiliar
Yet I've been here many times
The same color, the same silence
You'd not sense a life or dime

Although the lack of light
Would seem to impend doom
Somehow I feel infinite hope
As if it thrives in this dark room

I want my eyes to open
But they stay closed for unknown reason
I long for a flicker of light
In this black so cold, so freezing

I hope and I hope for a sight to come
What I'll see, I don't know
All I know is I'm blind to the future
And all I have for it is hope

If we could see everything we'd go stark raving mad and suicidally sad

Compelling poem, B. When the lights go out, fantasy can take over. I like the way you hold on to hope for the future even though you don't know what it will bring. And I admire the way you seem to be at peace in the darkness. That's the sign of a person who is at ease with her life. Very inspiring poem!
