Beyond Midnight
Beyond midnight I drift off to sleep,
Deep, deep into a dream I am floating,
And I am walking a garden stepping stone path,
It is a magical garden that I find myself in.
With graceful flowers in beautiful colours,
Creeping phlox, painted daisies and red roses,
And in and out of foliage a little bird zips,
Zooming towards me, it hovers momentarily.
Then he lands on my hand twittering loudly,
I am dazzled by his intense colors and wings,
But in an instant he is gone lost in the green,
And sadly a breeze from my window wakes me.
I struggle in my blankets to find the dream,
The winding and turning stepping stone path,
A place in the corridors of my mind so soothing,
That only comes to me long beyond midnight
