Badly Bent Not Broken

We laughed at each and every thing.
You were my sovereign soul mate.
How could I know when I wore your ring
that you were the one would teach me hate?

So many days filled up with laughter.
Nights of unmistakable pleasure.
Then you hung me from the highest rafter.
Caused me pain too deep to measure.

I worked so hard to perfect and please.
Giving you everything I was made of.
In times of stress I'd bring you ease.
You flourished in unconditional love.

One night I came home late from work.
There was my telephone message blinking.
Turns out you're a heartless jerk.
You shattered me without twice thinking.

Those words still haunt me to this day.
"I simply can't go on pretending.
I need my freedom and right away".
How cruel the message you were sending.

Yet when I recovered from the shock
I picked up the pieces of my soul.
For years my heart was under lock.
But now I'm healed and once more whole.

I've heard that you never settled down.
That great love's never come your way.
Well karma reigns and you wear the crown.
That's really all I have to say!

Congrats on your placement with this, Deb. of the hardest experiences....I fully expected that you'd walk in on some shocking scene, but that text message was just as devastating....You've portrayed this well...I'm glad you're well and whole and happy. Hugs

Deb. I have no way of knowing if you write this from your own experience, or from a pseudo perspective, but either way, it reached me. Very good write. Grats on your placement. Christopher Thor Britt

Wish I could hear the message but you made it clear. It's the end. You hung me high yes that's how it feels.

Your pain is palpable. What a exquisite portrayal of betrayal. True freedom can only be found when giving ourselves whole heartedlly to another, he obviously lacked that capacity. I am so sorry you went through this. I am glad you recovered and removed your heart from being under lock.

Hi Deb, so incredibly sorry for your loss and the emotional and spiritual brutality of how it went down. Hurts to here I know! Sounds like your ex- still has a ton of emotional power over you... I'd just try to let it all go.. Even forgive. Not so much for them but for you to get closure. Blind people are blind. They hurts others and the hurt themselves. Pray they comes to see. Deep inside, that magic that once attracted you, may still be there !?! Best Wishes!
