Autumn's First Tease
There’s a new chill in the air today
as fall yawns in early September
allowing overworked air conditioners
to cease their constant droning.
Once sealed windows are raised in welcome
to this short repast from summer’s heat
while children standing at bus stops
give way to small shivers for warmth.
The day awakens as any other
with sun rising from the eastern sky
yet seemingly bringing with it new visions
that alight with a spring in its steps.
We greet this banquet of cooler breeze
with smiles on our faces and jubilation
while awaiting the turning of new season
bringing Autumn’s golden display of leaves.
