As the Light Catches the Leaf
As the light catches the leaf
twisting in descent
so it does on occasion
illumine sharp in motion
some fragment shed
from an insight flourishing
too peripheral to draw
sustenance from the root
and so condemned to decay
yet by crimson or saffron seeming
to contradict the process of corruption
become by drifting
beyond wisdom’s influence
beautiful
as though in approaching dust
it did secure a sudden
determination to discover
delight in color
so long denied
in deference to clarity
