An Empty Shell

Your looking at me, Like an empty shell But if you look closer, Theres a deeper, Story to tell. If you listen keenly, I have something to say But you may not hear me. My voice has slipped away. If you look into my eyes, You may not see me. Just a reflection of a man I once use to be. Im not this person that you see Im considered, an empty shell, By the people, who surrounds me So please be patient, This may take, Some time. Ive lost everything, Including my mind. It seems like a slow Process That just comes, with time. There where clues along, the Way, but chose to ignore the signs. I use to have so much, To say but Cant talk anymore, its Muffled away. His walked turned into, a shuffle " I heard someone say" I stopped walking, that dreadful day. I am a man of 70+ years A man no more, but a baby full of tears Unfamiliar faces changing, and Dressing me. This wasnt how, it was intended to be. Giving me a cup of coffee. I wish I could tell them, I prefere tea. They will never know, the person I use To be. A strong, gentle, humble soul Who use to garden, and watch his seeds grow. If only they knew, they would surely agree Not see this BEING ,,, an empty shell. Who has come to be, .......ME contest being Posted. 6/ 15/ 2013

Hi connie, I can so relate to your father having Alzheimer's. My uncle is still alive, but everything that he was is gone...but we all still hold on to our memories of them. Its such a sad disease...all diseases are sad but this one seems, to take all the things we cherish in, a person. The mind to the body. Thanks for sharing that with me really appreciate it:) & ty for the congrats:)

I do applaud your insight.....being a nurse I have witnessed this so many times.....if only more people had your patience and understanding. This should be required reading for every Nursing Facility. Congratulations on your win.
