A Queens Plea
Madam, I am judged, and sentenced by your lords,
their ruling, swiftly given, seals my fate,
but, there is no importance to their words
true judgement comes from God, for this I wait,
Sharing a monarch's passion, duty, pride,
alas, we did not know each other well
for, when my religion was cruelly cast aside
replaced by yours, I feared the hounds of hell
Your grace, my faith is all I have left to me,
I pray the executioner be swift and strong,
may my people remember their Queen Mary,
and forgive her for she tried to do no wrong
MARY QUEEN OF SCOTLAND
writ in the year of our lord 1586
