A Moment In Time
it’s a cold dark
perhaps rainy night
in detroit, michigan
in the early 1930’s
a young man
hails a taxi
to get to his job on the docks
he looks at the driver
and says
you know,
after we are both married
and have kids
and after the war
thirty years from now
your youngest daughter
will marry my oldest son
and we two will become
fast friends
…………
not likely,
since one was black and
one was white
and they probably
wouldn’t be able to
ride in the same car
in the ‘30’s
in detroit
but eighty years later
I still like to picture it
