A Modern Curse

I do not like your mobile phone. I do not like its ringing tone. I do not like it here nor there; I do not like it any where. I do not like it on a plane, nor when I’m on a crowded train; not in a bus, not in a car, not even in a crowded bar. I do not want to hear it ping or, even worse, Madonna sing. I do not like the sound of pop; that wretched noise has got to stop. So let me make this mighty clear, your phone, I do not want to hear. And, should it ever start to ring, I’ll come and smash the wretched thing. ~

A simple poem that instantly lead me to Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. The rhyming makes it feel light and easy even if you're talking about a curse and modern noise.

This one really hit home with me. Cell phones are complete and utter noise pollution...the kid judges loved the rhyme and giggled along..The laugh meter had the final say. And yes, NO MADONNA RING TONES!! A wonderful and fun sing song kind of entry. Congrats to you~Gwendolen

CHarles, I LOVE how you did yours. You really stuck to a good metered parody of Green HAm and Eggs. I was trying that approach but could not keep to that particular meter and ended up with one of my own. I think this would be great if it were extended even longer! When you introduced pop, I expected you to begin writing about other annoying sounds, not just the dang cell phones!! I sure enjoyed this.

Do you suddenly find, when you are pootling about, a word or phrase that rings a bell? 'Yes', you think, 'I could play with this'? And sometimes it works. But then at other times, no matter how hard you try, it ends up as a dogs breakfast? Charles.

I agree with you, Clive. Ringing phones drive me nuts. This is excellent, just like a Dr. Seuss rhyme. Best wishes in the contest. Love, Kim
