A Long Forgotten Memory

A long forgotten memory strolled back into my life today A botched attempt at making love that got lost along the way We were ships passing in the night when our nights were still so few She said, “Joe, even after all these years, I still remember you … … I still remember you”. We caught up on the decades passed sharing important things we did We swapped each other’s new I-phones to look at pictures of our kids I’ve added pounds and lost all my hair; she has a gray strand or two But in the eyes we recognized that inexperienced kid we once knew … … that kid we once knew. My wife walked in and her husband arrived - introductions all around As two married couples getting acquainted we could find no common ground We ended that night with pleasantries then again went on our way But that long forgotten memory is back in my thoughts to stay … … back in my thoughts to stay.
