Notes About The Poem

Written 4/16/13

Sweet Little Lady

Many insects creep upon this earth, and hardly anyone refers to them as “nice” or writes a poem reflecting on their worth! Spiders sometimes make me jump as if they were small mice, and how repulsed I feel to see cockroaches or lice! How many cute soft cuddly insects can we find? Worms are soft, but cuddly? I don’t think so! Which bug both cute and sweet comes to your mind? Well, Butterflies are lovely; fireflies have a nice soft glow. But the one that comes to MY mind I bet you know! She is a lady beetle, and when she lands on me, I do not flinch or swat at her or gasp out “Ugh!” People like to count her spots. A lucky one is she. Protecting crops, she is well liked by farmers. What a bug! If she were but my size, I’d give her a big hug. For Angela Tune's Insects Poetry Contest

Andrea So cute and sweet. Yes, ladybugs are one of the few insects that don't make me squirm with fright. Thank you for the awesome comment on my My Nicknames poem.

Just watched a Lassie episode where they were using lady bugs to debug the apple trees. Aphids or something. Caterpillars are nice. :) Sweet little poem you wrote here. For one about an insect. :)

This poem brings back the memory when I was a child. I enjoyed so much collecting beetles during the rainy season ( May)-colors were brown, black & green. How I wish I've seen a lady beetle. Is this insect the one we used to call a Lady Bug? Your poem is not only pretty, but also instructive. Love, daver

A worthy tribute to the ladybug/bird or whatever Andrea, I have noticed that there are not so many around these years; now as far as the poem middle line goes imagine a torpid tropical air pushing down on the oceans face, with those raised crests that are very small that appear to run in low rows at times; hope you are well Joe'
