A Dark Place

To live in a dark place, Forced inside, Disabled by despair, Memories entwined in barbed wire, Cerebral cuts seep anger, Trapped, The door... bolted shut with transparent lies, The stench of deceit fills the air, Tears pool below, Black mould climbs the walls, Figures appear within....visions of two, Echoes laugh, Insignificant you, More lies, Another slice of my heart, Falls to the ground, To feed the rats that scurry, But Sometimes... Light cuts through the darkness, She’s outside, A glimpse of another, A beautiful silhouette, Momentary hope, But despair returns, She can’t see the real me, Hidden in this dark place, Soulless self-preservation, Conditioned... "It’s safer in here", Still... In the darkest of moments, A weakening hope pushes through depressed thoughts, She will come, So wait for her, Rain falls today, Dripping , ticking, Time is dying, In this dark place,
